Clermont, Florida
Clermont is a city in Lake County, Florida, and was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916. It is the largest city in Lake County, Florida and is located in south Lake County in rural north central Florida, about 22 miles west of the city of Orlando and 22 miles southeast of the city of Leesburg.
The historic downtown district is still much as it was 50 years ago. The Florida Citrus Tower, one of the first constructed Florida landmarks, is located in Clermont. The tower celebrated its 50th anniversary in December of 2006.
Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards opened its doors in February 1989 in Clermont and sits on a 127-acre estate in gently rolling countryside. Lakeridge is now regarded by Florida's Department of Agriculture as the premier viticultural development site within the state.
This region of Central Florida that is now known as Lake County has been inhabited for thousands of years for the same reasons that still bring people to this area, namely mild weather, excellent growing conditions, and an abundance of fish and game. This region was home to the Timucuan Indians.
